Unity Character Controller Developer

We are looking for an experienced Unity gameplay developer for a one-month remote contract to refine and polish our existing character controller. You will improve how the cat moves, responds and interacts with the world, working across input, animation, camera behavior and gameplay integration. Hands-on PS5 development experience and experience implementing DualSense features are essential.

Responsibilities

• Review the existing controller with the team, identify issues and agree on priorities and achievable milestones for the one-month engagement.
• Refine character movement and traversal, collision handling, responsiveness and transitions between gameplay states, including the cat’s hand-tail interactions within the agreed scope.
• Improve animation integration, blending and timing, use root-motion driven animation selectively, and coordinate camera behavior with movement and interactions.
• Refine keyboard and gamepad input and implement or improve DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger effects that support the gameplay.
• Integrate controls with existing puzzles, stealth, combat and scripted sequences; resolve conflicting inputs and transitions.
• Playtest and tune game feel with the team, fix controller-related bugs and validate behavior in representative gameplay scenes and PS5 builds.

Requirements

• Strong Unity and C# experience, with a portfolio demonstrating responsive character controllers and polished gameplay.
• Hands-on experience developing and debugging Unity games on PS5, including testing on PlayStation development hardware.
• Practical experience implementing DualSense features, particularly haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
• Solid understanding of movement systems, collision and physics, input handling, animation state machines and camera integration.
• Ability to assess, debug and improve an existing codebase while maintaining compatibility with established game systems.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows; ability to deliver readable, maintainable code and clear documentation.
• Clear communication, dependable remote collaboration and availability to complete an agreed scope within one month.

Nice to Have

• Experience with 2.5D adventures, platformers or games featuring non-human playable characters.
• Experience with animation rigging, inverse kinematics or procedural animation.
• A shipped PlayStation title or experience supporting console submission and certification.

Expected Deliverables

• A refined controller integrated into the existing Unity project, covering the agreed movement, interaction, animation, camera and input scope.
• Implemented and tested DualSense effects for agreed gameplay actions, with configurable tuning settings.
• Source code committed to the studio’s GitHub repository, documentation of setup and tuning, a list of any remaining issues, and a handover session with the team.
